Roger Keesing papers, 1962-1993.

The papers contain Solomon Islands field notebooks (1963-1964, 1966, 1968-1970, 1974, 1979, 1985, 1988-1990), black-and-white photographs and color slides of Kwaio village life and customs, and reel-to-reel and cassette audiorecordings of interviews with informants in the Kwaio language. Included are manuscripts and drafts for Keesing's books, papers and journal articles; subject files; correspondence with colleagues, friends, family, and associates; teaching materials; and prepublication articles of others. Also included are field notebooks of Keesing's Kwaio informant, Jonathan Fifi'i, as well as transcriptions of his entries in English. Keesing's fieldwork in Chambra, India, and other Himalayan villages is represented by correspondence, field notebooks, photographs and slides, linguistic materials, and drafts for several articles.

American cultural and linguistic anthropologist, Roger Martin Keesing was born in Hawaii in 1935 and received his M.A. (1963) and Ph.D (1965) from Harvard University. During the early 1960s, Keesing conducted fieldwork in the Solomon Islands with the Kwaio people and returned regularly over the next two decades to continue his studies.
